Botanical characteristics: Suma is a perennial wild plant that grows in South America, a shrubby ground vine with an intricate, deep, and extensive root system.

Habitat: Brazil

Chemical composition: glomeric acid, pfameric acid, ecdysterone, oleanolic acid, rubrosterone, b-glucopyranosyl, b-ecdisone and saponins.(1, 4, 9, 2)

Therapeutic indications: tonic(10), antihyperglycemicand(2), stimulant, for stress(7, 10) and analgesic-anti-inflammatory activity(11).

Dose: decoction with 5 g of suma root boiled in a liter of water; two cups of the decoction are generally taken daily. For powder: 1–2 g daily depending on body weight and health condition and this daily dosage is usually taken in two or three divided dosages throughout the day.
